In the latest edition of #ViewIntoVipond, project manager John Kerr introduces us to his daily routine and the work he does to meet our customers’ challenges.
Consistency aligned with variety.
John has been part of the Vipond team for over 15 years, and the variety of his projects takes him across the country. But where possible, he likes to be in the office on Mondays in order to plan his week and prioritise his work. It’s important that John understands the minute details of his projects, so he asks a lot of questions and keeps his notepad and diary on him at all times to record all the information he receives from his clients.
John’s responsibilities cover on-site change management, procurement, and training, so each day is different from the next, and being flexible and agile is fundamental to his ability to deliver his projects on time and within budget.
As well as reliable pen and paper, John uses a tablet to quickly markup technical drawings and complete paperwork on site, which he says has been a great time saver when visiting the customer. Given the spread of his Vipond colleagues throughout the country, collaboration tools are important to John and the project team, so they take advantage of new technologies wherever possible.

John describes the team dynamic and spirit of collaboration as one of the most fulfilling and rewarding aspects of his job. When he’s in the office, he sits with the contacts team along with six other project managers and supervisors, and they all pull together to deliver the best possible service for our clients.
John’s team has recently completed a project at a large retail store in the Glasgow Fort shopping centre, which is one of the achievements he’s most proud of. He cites the quality of the work and attention to detail of the engineers as the most important factors behind delivering such an outstanding project.
Outside of work, John lives with his wife and two daughters. He coaches his eldest daughter’s football team, so two nights of training and a weekend game give him plenty of other things to keep him busy outside his work at Vipond.
