Halon's proven involvement in the destruction of the planet's ozone layer has placed a severe burden on companies relying on halon-based fire suppression systems or owning halon products.

Recent EU legislation 2037/2000 means that discharged fire suppression systems can no longer be refilled and requires the owners of halon or halon-based systems to remove and destroy all halon by the end of 2003.
